SOFT MATTE SILK PRINTING

A softly textured silk with understated lustre, graceful movement and an easy-to-wear finish for apparel and accessories.

  • Matte-luxe surface suits sophisticated colour palettes
  • Comfortable drape for garments worn close to the body
  • Fine texture adds depth without overpowering the artwork

Why choose Silk Crepe de Chine Fabric?

Crepe de Chine is valued for its refined matte appearance and supple drape. Compared with glossy satin, it feels quieter and more contemporary, while still carrying colour beautifully for dresses, blouses, scarves and elevated everyday collections.

Where this fabric works best

Fluid apparel

A strong option for blouses, dresses, skirts and relaxed tailoring.

Soft scarves

Creates elegant folds with less shine than satin.

Resort collections

Works well for flowing silhouettes and painterly repeats.

Artwork and sampling notes

  • Soft-edged artwork and painterly colour transitions complement the crepe surface.
  • Use a production-scale strike-off to check tiny lines against the natural texture.
  • Tell us whether opacity, breathability or drape is the first priority when choosing weight.

From file to approved fabric

  1. Brief: share artwork, colour references, end use and target quantity.
  2. Base selection: compare suitable constructions, weights and finishes.
  3. Strike-off: review colour, scale and print behaviour on the selected fabric.
  4. Bulk production: approve the sample standard before printing and final inspection.

Frequently asked questions

Is crepe de Chine shiny?

Crepe de Chine has a soft, restrained lustre rather than the mirror-like shine associated with satin. Its fine crepe texture diffuses reflected light, giving printed colours a sophisticated, slightly matte appearance while preserving a fluid hand. The exact sheen varies with weight, construction, finishing and viewing angle. Dark grounds and highly saturated colours can look different under directional light, so colour should be approved on the selected fabric rather than on screen alone. A strike-off lets you evaluate lustre, colour depth, texture and reverse-side penetration before committing to bulk production.

Is it suitable for garments?

Yes. Silk crepe de Chine is widely used for blouses, dresses, skirts, soft trousers and garment panels because it combines fluid drape with a less glossy surface than satin. Lighter weights may need lining depending on the colour and silhouette, while heavier bases provide more opacity and body. For apparel, we also review cutting direction, print repeat, seam placement and how the fabric behaves after finishing. Share the garment type, desired hand feel, opacity and target weight so we can recommend a practical base and confirm the result with a swatch or printed sample.

Can the print remain detailed?

Crepe de Chine can reproduce gradients, illustrations and photographic artwork very well, but its subtle pebbled surface may soften hairlines, tiny lettering and very low-contrast details compared with a perfectly smooth satin. Supply high-resolution artwork at final size, keep critical text and lines comfortably above the minimum practical scale, and avoid relying on screen colour as the final standard. We recommend a strike-off on the selected weight to check sharpness, colour, repeat scale and face-to-back penetration, then use the approved sample as the production reference.
